US wants Afghan Taliban to become enemies of Pakistan: PEW
ISLAMABAD,
Aug 14 (Online): The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Tuesday said any action
against Haqqani network on the behest of America will weaken Pakistan. This is
a conspiracy aimed at turning different Afghan Taliban factions against
Pakistan, it said. Pakistan will lose goodwill among Afghan Taliban as well as
ability to negotiate a deal if it took action against friendly Taliban groups,
said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW. He said that Haqqani network is not as
deadly as painted by US and Nato; its capability to conduct operations is
limited to three provinces. Dr. Murtaza Mughal said US has been asking Pakistan
army should launch attack against Haqqani’s sanctuaries but she would not seal border
or use drones. Why Islamabad should take action against groups that have never
launched any attack on Pakistan, he asked. He said that Islamabad should take
decisions in her own interest rejecting US pressure, adding that any wrong move
can turn Afghan Taliban into our enemies which will hurt country for decades
even after last American leaves region. Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that an
operation in Balochistan will strengthen the country while the outcome of
operation in the North Waziristan will not be very different from earlier
operations conducted in FATA. He said that we are proud of services and
sacrifices of ISI without which Pakistan cannot remain a stable and sovereign
country. Internal and external enemies have been trying to dismember Pakistan
which can be effectively checked by security forces and intelligence agencies
if they are given additional powers, it said.
